Reward system
Students can earn tickets for various incentives by displaying model behavior in class. Such behavior includes having a positive attitude, listening/participating in classroom discussions, collaborating effectively with peers, and exhibiting a good work ethic.
Late work policy
It is imperative that all assignments be turned in on time, therefore, I do not accept late work two or more days after the due date.

Course Description: The English Language Arts Curriculum is designed to introduce students to core concepts that are further developed and expanded as student’s progress through each grade level. This process allows students to develop the skills necessary to: 1) comprehend and interpret texts, including written as well as audio and visual texts; 2) compose a variety of types of texts, including those critical to the workplace; 3) effectively communicate and interact with others in group situations; and 4) communicate information through different modes of presentation. The English Language Arts curriculum integrates the processes of reading, writing, and listening/speaking/viewing in order to help students communicate and interpret information in a variety of modes.
Up Procedures: Each student is responsible for obtaining and completing missed assignments without student/teacher interaction. Students will have the number of days absent plus one day to make up work following an absence. When a student is suspended from school, the teacher is required to prepared sufficient assignments for the student during the duration of his/her suspension. The teacher will have twenty four hours from the day that the suspension was assigned to have the work in the main office for pick up.

Instructional
Strategies: The following instructional strategies will be used to enhance student achievement: Use of manipulative, advanced graphic organizers, interactive word walls, collaborative pairs, cooperative groups, reading across the curriculum as well as additional strategies that meet the needs of the content area.
Projects: Cumulative projects will be assigned at the end of each unit. Any necessary materials and requirements will be distributed as needed.

Tutorial: Each individual teacher will set up his/her tutorial times and notify the students.
Teacher/Parent
Communication: An open line of communication is encouraged between teachers and parents. Email communication is likely to receive the fastest response. Conferences may be scheduled by contacting Mrs. Varney at any time. Parental visits are encouraged; however, it is the policy of Lindley Middle School that all visitors must report to the office before going to other parts of the building. A “Visitors Pass” will be issued as evidence that this procedure has been followed.

Recovery: Opportunities designed to allow students to recover from a low or failing cumulative grade will be allowed when all work required to date has been completed and the student has demonstrated a legitimate effort to meet all course requirements including attendance. Teachers will determine when and how students with extenuating circumstances may improve their grades. All recovery work is due two weeks before the end of the semester.
